Today’s Tarot of Bones daily draw is the Seven of Swords. It’s fine to be an individual, but when that crosses over into misanthropy and stereotypes that’s when individuality becomes toxic. Everyone has their own story, their own thoughts and feelings, and when you spend so much time defining yourself by what you are not, you lose track of who you actually are. So take a moment to really examine your biases toward other people, for you may very well be making snap judgements based on limited experiences with them at their worst moments. Would you want someone to make up their mind about you when you’re stressed or upset or tired? No? Then perhaps extend the same understanding to others.

You can order the Tarot of Bones deck and book, or purchase a Tarot of Bones reading, at http://www.thetarotofbones.com/shop/ – and yes, even if you don’t have a Paypal account you CAN use the Paypal option to pay with a debit or credit card!

FLORENCE & THE MACHINE INSPIRED TAROT

a seven day, self-reflective challenge inspired by florence & the machine lyrics. questions are meant to reveal inner truths and invoke contemplation of the self, and are a form of shadow work. this spread relies heavily on relinquishing control in a difficult situation so as to come out better on the other side; the questions aim to help you cope with the impact, and breathe.

pull 3+ cards per question; the questions are inspired by my own interpretation of the lyrics, so if they don’t resonate with you, feel free to personalize them to better suit your own desires in a reading

day 1: “happiness hit her like a train on a track; coming towards her, stuck still, no turning back.” what catalyst is coming for me? how can i stop being afraid and let it run it’s course? how will it benefit me, even if it knocks me off my feet?

day 2: “with your big heart, you praise god above; but how’s that workin out for you, honey? do you feel loved?” what do i need to stop ‘worshiping?’ why isnt this thing im clinging to benefiting me?

day 3: “i must become a lion-hearted girl; ready for a fight; before i make the final sacrifice.” what strengths do i need to display? what do i need to give up to make myself stronger?

day 4: “be careful my darling; be careful of what it takes; what ive seen so far, the good ones always seem to break.” how can i shield myself? who should i turn to for support?

day 5: “lay me down; let the only sound, be the overflow; pockets full of stones.” what scary thing do i currently need to give into? should i let myself drown if it means ill come out pure and clear on the other side?

day 6: “grab me by the ankles, ive been flying for too long; i couldnt hide from the thunder in a sky full of song.” what good thing do i need to stop hiding from? how should i overcome it, so that the thing i fear can become beautiful again?

day 7: “tell me what you need, oh you look so free; the way you use your body, baby, come on and work it for me; dont let em get you down, youre the best thing ive seen; we never found the answer but we knew one thing.” what will i learn from this situation? how will the outcome affect me for the better?

Autumn in the Desert? It can be witchy too!

Spicing up last year’s desert witch post

Personally to me, autumn is the most beautiful season of the year. Nothing compares to the colors, the smells, the sounds, and let’s not forget the tastes you experience in this season! It’s a great way for many witches to awaken their mind, body, and soul. But, not all witches live in vast forest or suburban areas with trees. If you live in the desert like me, (Sonoran Desert, Arizona woot woot 🌵), then you have to find the beauty of autumn in other ways. Seeings how the local cacti aren’t “dropping leaves” and the temperatures are still in the 90°F – 100°F zone it can be hard to get into the spirit of things. So, here are some tips for my fellow witches in the desert!

🍂Get up early to experince dawn ☀️

Set those alarms early. You’ll want to wake up and brew that tea as soon as the sun starts to peep over the horizon. Gotta be up no later than 6 am, trust me. It’s the only time of day where there’s sunlight and it’s only in the 60°F – 70°F temperature zone outside. The best time to get that “fall feeling” you miss is right now. The nip from the desert night’s air meeting the warmth of the morning’s beaming sun rays is indescribable. Nature at her most beautiful and serene. It’s also a great opportunity as witches to charge or cleanse anything you’d like (water, crystals, spell jars, etc) to give an extra “kick” from the day’s first light.

🍂Go Hiking 🏃‍♀️

No, seriously. I know it seems silly but, go out on a hike and THEN tell me you don’t come back more “one with nature” lol. Whether it be by yourself or with friends, go out an enjoy the life that is teeming all around you. Some of the most beautiful scenes in the desert are during autumn months because the summer rains have left behind all that new green foliage. Not to mention the beginning of migrant animals can be seen on your walks as well. Hiking in general is just a great way to realign yourself with nature. To recharge, cleanse, and give yourself a good “boost” in positive energy.

* Helpful desert tip: Remember to always keep a charged cell phone, water, and food on your person when you go out hiking. Also it is super important that before you go out on a trail monitor the weather in the area you are going to. Monsoon rains and flash flooding on trails is still a big threat to hikers until October. Make sure if you hike alone somebody knows exactly where you are going, how long you are planning on hiking for, and when to expect you back from your hike.

🍂Plant something new 🌱

This time of year for us desert witches is great for planting new seedlings. Those precious flowers and herbs that died this summer? Try replanting them now. Mints, lavenders, berries, peppers, all sorts of plants can now flourish. With temperatures still warm during the day but short of freezing at night, even outdoor planting and gardening is perfect in autumn. If you have succulents put them outside in the wee hours of the morning. The early rays are perfect for even delicate babies to enjoy outside safely.

🍂Celebrate with local foods 🥐🍎

Anyone can eat pumpkin pie or have apple cider. It’s in the markets EVERYWHERE. But, fall for me means prickly pear and mesquite trees. Prickly pear is a fruit from the cacti plant, Opuntia, and it is heaven. It’s our pumpkin here in Arizona in a lot of ways. Culturally it’s a staple to welcoming autumn in the desert. The monsoon rains have brought a lot of new harvest. The fruit is picked for grilling, baking, soups, candies, jams, jellies, drinks, breads, cakes, you name it, it’s made with prickly pear. lol. As well with mesquite trees, you can mill the pods that the trees drop in the fall and make flour with it. The rains from the monsoons has been making the pods sweet and ready to bake into breads, pies, cakes, all sorts of goodies. I can always tell it’s autumn out here when you sit fire side to mesquite wood burning, prickly cakes, and a nice tall glass of prickly pear cider. yum! 😊

Where ever you are, remember to embrace all the moments fall has to bring. Enjoy the changing season around you and celebrate it however best fits you 🍁

Wax Seal Charms

From simple love spells to glamours and hexes, wax seal charms are a powerful and versatile tool for any witch’s arsenal. Small, inconspicuous, and easy to hide, these simple charms are useful for nearly any type of magick.

First, you will need a smooth work surface (I used the bottom of a ceramic bowl). Fold a small envelope from a square of paper. You want the envelope to be the same size as or smaller than the wax seal to ensure complete wax coverage.

Next, write your intent (or draw a sigil) on the inside of the envelope. Keep it simple or write very small.

You can add a small pinch of herbs (or a taglock) if you like, but try not to use too much or the charm won’t flatten and may not seal correctly.

Once you’ve added your herbs, fold the envelope shut. You may need to squish it a little to keep it closed.

Pour your wax over the envelope, making sure to cover any open edges, and place your stamp in the molten wax. Apply light pressure for a few moments and then allow to cool.

Once completely cool, remove your stamp and peel the charm off your work surface.

And voila! A small, portable charm that can easily be slipped into a purse or wallet unnoticed.

A lovely way to use my wax seal!!
