Water Scrying — What is it and how do I do it?

So a lot of common methods of divination are candle/flame, tarot, runestones, pendulums, plamistry, tea leaf, and black mirror scrying (I personally use tarot, runestones, and water divination but I’d love to get into black mirror scrying!) however water scrying is something I rarely see on tumblr. So, I decided to make a post about it and some methods I use!!!

~~~
So, what is water scrying?
Water scrying is a divination technique where you look at water and analyze the images you see in it. It’s often said that it works best when done at natural water source under the moonlight, however, I often fill this one bowl I use only for magic (usually water divination, though) and do it in my backyard or at my window.
The best way to think about it is watching the light hit the water and finding the meaning in those creations. If you’re working with running water or a water source with tides or waves, this can help to enhance the way light bounces off the water, which is why many prefer doing it at a stream or beach. However, people don’t always have access to a place like this and I find a bowl of water under the moonlight works just as well.
Tips for doing water scrying
  • Breathe. If you don’t see anything, don’t stress it. Sometimes the universe is just trying to calm you down.
  • Try not to force the water to reflect light. If the water is perfectly still and you don’t see a lot of water reflecting, don’t stick your hand in and try to get the water to move. Changing location or your source of water is a much more accurate divination method.
  • There are no rules. It’s up to you to decide what you see in the water means. Sometimes I journal some of the more prominent and reoccurring symbols I see, but for the most part it’s watching the water and feeling the energies and emotions that call out to me.
PSA: These are my personal beliefs and practices. Many people have their own methods, and every witch is different. I just wanted to bring some light to one of my favorite techniques.
Well, I hope this managed to be useful to some of you guys! Sorry about not posting in awhile I’ve had a ton of work lately (or if this is poor quality—I’ve been working on it during breaks). I love all of you and I hope you have a great day 💙
10 things any new witch should know
  • Metaphysical shops/ new age shops are way over priced. Convenient, but expensive. Check out Etsy, farmers markets, thrift stores and grocery stores first.
  • Garden sage works just as well as white sage.
  • Spells can take a day, a week or even months to show. Be patient and don’t feel like you have to do the same spell again go get results.
  • Always, always protect yourself while doing any spell. Draw sigils on yourself or have a talisman of sorts on your person. Always.
  • If you’re using a spell book for your rituals, switch them up and make them personalized to your craft.
  • White or black candles can take the place of any colour candle. And rosemary can substitute for many herbs.
  • You can have certain books ( Wicca, pagan, occult, etc.) send to your local library for free.
  • You can cleanse your tools or crystals by moonlight and charge them by sunlight.
  • Always listen to your intuition.
  • Many “common weeds” can be used for magical purposes ( mugwort, yarrow, dandelion, etc.)
w33d-witch:
This was a job seeking spell I did on the night of the super blue blood moon and I’m sharing for anyone interested!
You’ll need:
– A glass jar/bottle with a cork
– A green candle (for money)
– Himalayan salt (for dissolving self doubt)
– Crushed eggshells (for strength)
– Crushed red pepper (for vitality)
– Black pepper (for a commanding presence)
– Cinnamon (for prosperity)
– Sugar (for a bit of sweetness)
– Rose petals (for confidence)
– Thyme (for courage)
– Rosemary (for focus)
1.) First light the green candle, focusing all of your intent on future employers contacting you by phone or email.
2.) Add the Himalayan salt first then layer as you please taking that time to visualize yourself sitting in an interview.
3.) Draw a sigil on the cork if you wish.
4.) Once you feel you have enough wax for the seal, snuff out the green candle while saying, “I want a job, I’m going to get a job.”
5.) Seal the bottle with the green wax and keep it in a place where you’ll see it often!
Good luck!
Note: The very next morning after I did this spell I received a phone call for an interview!!
