Now I’m fucking frustrated b/c y’all are up here like “godkin are valid” just unfollow me. Please. I understand if a mental aliment is the reason you think that, it’s fine, it’s understandable. However, the majority of godkin/spouses I’ve met(on tumblr) have been essentially incels(in thought process). They use it as a grooming tactic towards minors/beginners, so they think “this is it, I’ve found a legit person to help me”. So they do whatever they say. They send them nudes despite being 13, they send them money despite being poor, they worship how they’re told too(even if it makes them uncomfortable). I’m sorry but it’s toxic and I’m not going to sit here and pretend to support it for you special snowflakes out there.

There will obviously always be situations where people think something for logical reasons(mental illnesses, brain tumors, etc). and I’m not dissing on that. Just the people who intentionally lie to be disgusting.

This is really unfortunate.

I honestly considered for a long time how to respond to this, because I feel like someone needs to. You are entitled to your opinions of course, but rather than take a moment to educate people on the difference between the historical practices and beliefs regarding these things and separating the fanatical manipulative practices from the valid practices, you instead decided to lump everyone into an overarching and harmful generalization. It would be like lumping all Christians in with manipulative Christian cults or all Pagans in with the sex cults. It’s just so narrow minded and it targets the wrong people.

So for my followers that have been sending me messages all day about this since I recently suggested Witch of the Norse as a source let me break down Godkin, Godspousing, and God relationships as they’ve existed throughout history across various ancient religions.

On Godkin

Children: Many people believe that they are the children/creation of their God in the metaphysical sense of the word. Just as Christians believe they are the actual children of the Abrahamic deity Yahweh, someone can believe they are the child of Cernunnos, of Freyr, Zeus, [insert deity here]. This can be because they believe their deity created them or simply decide to adopt a deity as their parental figure. They don’t typically have any superhuman abilities (those would be demigods) but may carry a blessing of their Godparent. For those with clairvoyance or metaphysical sight this can manifest in clear mark or sign.

Godshards: There are some people who believe that they are an incarnation of part of a deity. Just as Jesus is considered to be part of Yahweh himself and his own identity, other people may be a part of a deity experiencing Humanity at the moment. The deity and the person exist independently of each other, and do not share consciousness during this incarnation. But after death it is possible that the shard will rejoin their deity soul.

Other family ties: This is more common than you may think. Many of the pantheons have stories of the relavent deities actually being that people’s first ancestors. Some may feel stronger familial ties to specific deities as siblings, cousins, neices/nephews, etc.

On Godspousing

This is also more common throughout history than you may think and even in the modern age. Monks and Nuns take holy vows that equate to marriage of the Abrahamic God, Yahweh. They even take vows of monogomy to renounce relationships between themselves and other humans. Furthermore Protestant Christian teachings refer to all Christians as the brides of Christ and that the ultimate marriage is between the Church and God. Ancient Temples of different deities would often involve something similar – vows, marriage, and monogomous relationships with that chosen deity.

Pagan godspousing is a personal choice to define the relationship between a person and their deity as romantic rather than another definition. If someone elects to involve sexual acts or sexual pleasure in their devotions this can also be considered godsex.

A NOTE ON THESE THINGS:

Each individual has the right to define their own relationships with their deity(s) and judge them in accordance with their own conscience and with regard to their own spiritual path and identity. HOWEVER, in order for their spiritual beliefs and definitions to be valid and recognized by others it MUST remain personal and without impacting (or attempting to impact) how others are defining their own beliefs and spiritual identity.

NO person should ever be using their spiritual beliefs and relationship definitions with their deities to manipulate, take advantage of, or abuse others in anyway. Being Godkin doesn’t entitle your identity to be acknowledged by others or play a part in their spiritual beliefs.

Being a Godshard does not mean that you should be asking anyone to acknowledge that you are the same as the whole deity or convincing anyone that you are anything other than human with memories of a past life connected to a deity.

IF any individual is attempting to interact with minors, insinuate they have unique divine knowledge, or require worship from anyone they are not actually identifying their practice with these things and instead are attempting to engage in religious abuse.

There are significant differences.

Know them, educate others on them, and please remember that just because you personally don’t believe in something or adopt a spiritual practice does not mean that you hold omniscient knowledge on the spiritual path of others.

if ur worried about your content going on this-isnt-magic or modernwitchtips then maybe don’t share your practice on the internet till you know it’s legit

‘Until it’s legit’ but …like okay, that’s such an open-ended stipulation though?

Besides that, having looked at this-isn’t-magic when it first got started, seems like a lot of the mods over there are either coming from a perspective of chaos magic, or else a young UBarWyTCH who thinks because they’ve been practicing since they were 16 they’re suddenly an authority on what constitutes ‘real magic’ and what doesn’t. The thing I haven’t heard anyone bring up yet is the difference(s) between 1) Sympathetic Magic (in which you designate something as something else and work magic on it that way) 2) Folk Magic and Hearthcraft, 3) Pop Culture Magic and 4) Entity creation. Literally these are some of the categories I’ve seen them say aren’t ‘magic’, like someone tracing sigils and intent into their food while they’re cooking. Newsflash: that’s magic, because that’s what it’s intended to be. If you intend a practice or an action to be magical, I’m of the opinion that it is.

So blogs like this-isn’t-magic cater to these elitist ‘you have to have LuNAR elaborate RytUal during the third full moon of the year at three PM when jupiter is ascending past the third quarter and you have to be outside skylad walking widdershins at a crossroads in a circle’ bullshit. Firstly, not everyone has time for that-nor do they practice that way, nor is it always safe to. Not everyone can afford to have an awesome wand made of 100 year old rowan wood; some people have to settle for a fuking pixie stick they got at Party City. Especially a lot of younger, poorer witches or witches that may be in the closet. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

‘If you don’t want this-isn’t-magic to get ahold of your spells GIT GUD’ is … frankly ridiculous. My first spells were done at the kitchen table when my parents weren’t home with a dollar store tealight and some fukin’ dill and sage. And you know what? Of course it didn’t work, because I was new to it, but it was part of the learning process because I didn’t understand things like intent and willpower and other powers either; like divine power, elemental power, ect ect. The key component to a practice? Study. Learning. and, again, intent.

I’m about to be 35 and I’ve been a practicing witch literally since I was 12/13. When I turned 16 I was classically mentored by a huge and well-known coven in San Francisco with a lot of elder witches from across a broad spectrum of traditions. So if you want a ‘witch’, I’m right fucking here…

… And I’m here to tell all the witches that follow me and will follow me that you do spells and magic however you’re able and with whatever power and intent and focus works for you. And don’t be afraid to share them if that’s what you’re called to do, just because a few trolls can’t handle ease, accessibility, and yes, even fun in the craft.  Own your practice; witchcraft is about personal power, and you rock yours, and fuck what other people have to say about it.

i mean i don’t disagree w all this, i can just see both sides of the whole “witchcraft should be accessable” vs “witchcraft should take effort” debate. but like if you don’t wanna get shit on here, don’t post it unless ur ready to defend it

I can see both sides too; that doesn’t mean that I think everyone who posts a spell someone doesn’t agree with should be totally shit on. There’s a huge difference between constructive criticism and just being a total turd sandwich. And in my experience when it comes to critique of spell writing, there’s more of the latter than the former.

If you want to see ‘good’ witchblr, and if you’re going to complain that the spells, rituals, or magic practices aren’t up to your standard, then it’s going to take more effort than ‘your shit sucks lol not real majick’. Either take on the responsibility of actually helping people get better and be productive, or just sit down and shut the fuck up. There’s enough turds in the punch bowl at the tumblr party without anyone adding to the problem. If you’re not going to be a part of the solution and you’re just going to be a troll, you’re just contributing to afore mentioned shit show.

It’s not even about just helping people and learning… it’s about who gets to decide what is real/good magic.

I’ve been practicing for nearly two decades, have I seen stuff on witchblr that is completely foreign to me? Yes. Have I seen things that I would never include in my practice? Sure.

Do my two decades of experience in hearth craft (with a dabbling in formal Wicca at the beginning) give me the right to not only determine that these other kinds of magic are invalid, but to belittle and talk down to those who practice it? Absofuckinglutely not.

Fuck that bullshit blog, and fuck anyone who participates in it.

What @lastxleviathan and @madamehearthwitch said

Thanks @madamehearthwitch for making that point :3

I mean you kinda made it already in your first post ❤ I just wanted to hone in on it more, because for myself personally… I think that’s really the key issue. More than just that bullshit blog, it’s a problem across the board on witchblr that I  have seen.

No one gets to decide what witchcraft looks like for anyone else. Especially not in a random troll on the internet situation.

“witchcraft should be accessible” vs “witchcraft should take effort”

It’s also really important to always remember that your effort doesn’t look the same as someone else’s effort.

Not every witches is gonna have access to the same tools and supplies as you. Not every witch is gonna have the same amount of energy and time to dedicate to their craft as you.

For me, as someone who’s suffers with a number of ailments, doing a simple spell takes a lot of energy out of me. I know it might sound ridiculous to someone else who has the energy to do an hour long ritual but I just don’t have that energy (or time).

Knowing it’s “legit” has nothing to do with it because these strangers online are not the keepers of witchcraft and they don’t determine what is legit or not. The only thing they can determine is what they would include in their own personal practice and what they wouldn’t. But these people are not experts, no matter how much they claim to be (if they claim to be).

I didn’t know we had like a Magic Council where we gotta get our Magic License to magic correctly, fuck man. Does anyone know how to schedule a hearing with the Magic Council so I can make sure my practice is legit??

(Honestly no shade, I’m just tired of people talking about legitimacy as though we have tools to measure that with. It’s magic, yo.)

Actually, we decided @godswalkwithher is now the Witch Pope. I’m a Witch Bishop, and as such it is my duty to spread the papal decrees, namely;

1. If you don’t like a spell someone else posts online, just don’t use it and go find one or make one you do like!

2. If you come up with a spell that works for you, huzzah! It’s officially a Legit Spell! If other people don’t like it, by papal decree they can shove off!

3. If you’re magicking shit, congrats! You’re magicking correctly! Doesn’t matter how you’re doing it, you’re doing fine!

But for real, some people just like to be judgmental assholes, far as I can tell.

🥐Ways to Celebrate Mabon🍂

songsparrowwitch:

Mabon is the second harvest festival in the Wheel of the Year that is celebrated on the autumnal equinox.

🍎Make apples into bowls! Carve out an apple so that the filling is gone and all that is left is a thick bowl-shaped apple shell. You can put small plants in these, offerings to spirits or deities, or you can place a candle inside. Put it on an altar or windowsill and it’s complete!

🍎Donate food! If you have food to spare, donate some to a local food pantry. Also, if you have pet food or toys to spare, donate to those to a local animal shelter! Mabon is a great holiday to give back and donating what you can is a wonderful way to celebrate the equinox!

🍎Burn bad habits! Literally. If you have a fireplace or somewhere where you can safely burn things, write down your bad habits and throw them in the fire. Then write down good habits you wish to have and hang it near the fireplace or on the fridge if you don’t have a fireplace. This season is all about change, so burn away the bad and work towards positive change!

🍎Spend time with friends and family! Surround yourself with good company and have a fun time! You can visit an apple orchard, watch a movie and eat sweet treats, spend time in the living room together, enjoy a meal with each other, and more.

🍎Bake and share! Apples are an ideal ingredient for homemade goods this time of year. Share your homemade treats with friends, family, or share them with a deity or spirit as an offering. Not only will you get to enjoy your goodies, but your loved ones will, too!

🍎Visit the deceased. Gather some fallen leaves (or flowers if you prefer), acorns, and pine cones and adorn the deceased’s grave with them. You can also light a candle for them and pray or talk to them. Take time to remember them on this holiday.

🍎Harvest and take care of your plants! Gather your herbs or take extra special care of your plants. You can use your harvested materials right away, dry them out, and/or store them away for later use! If your plant is not ready to be harvested, treat it to some new soil or fresh water!

🍎Make or buy wine! Unless you’re underage or an alcoholic. Otherwise, get or make some wine and celebrate! Who doesn’t like to get a little drunk on holidays?

🍎Take time to bask in nature! Winter is coming soon and those walks in the park won’t be as pleasant. Spend some time in the woods, an apple orchard, a lake, or just in your backyard and embrace what nature has to offer!

🍎Meditate or do some spells for balance! Mabon is an ideal time to perform spells that help balance your life. You can also meditate to relieve stress or whatever it is you like to do to relieve stress. Take time to relax and take care of yourself this holiday!

So Scientology has recently been purchasing ad spots on social media sites including Twitter and Facebook. Scientology has always worked hard to recruit young people it seems like they’re investing in social media as well now. I know most people think Scientology is a joke but it’s a seriously dangerous cult which uses fear, extortion, violence, vandalism and various other unethical actions against those who oppose them both inside and outside the church. Here is key information on the abuses committed by Scientology:

•Scientology uses a form of pseudo-therapy called auditing which focuses largely on embarrassing and traumatic memories. Scientology collects the information you share and uses that information to threaten you if you oppose the church. They also charge huge amounts of money for auditing sessions (which is why they really are doing all this).

•They are extremely anti-psychology and psychiatry and pressure you against taking any antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication or any other drugs for mental health.

•They believe homosexuality can be “cured” and are blatantly homophobic. •Enemies of the church are labeled “suppressive persons” and it is forbidden to communicate with such people. This isn’t just to limit the negative press they receive but also is a manipulative tool. If you are in the cult and decide to leave or criticize the church you stand the risk of being completely cut off from your friends and family. “Suppressive Persons” are often also harassed, stalked, or threatened.

•If you’re new to Scientology and your family or friends are worried about you being in a cult you’re instructed to cut them out of your life, increasing your reliance on the support system (though there’s nothing supportive about it) the church give to you.

•Scientology’s doctrine includes the concept of “Fair Game”. This basically says that those who are judged a threat to the Church can be punished and harassed by any and all means possible.

•Because of this, they have no moral qualms about having their members lie in court which they use to defend themselves from lawsuits or charges that they’ve broken the law and also to help win lawsuits against their enemies. •They essentially spied on and stole information from the IRS and tried to frame the mayor of Clearwater Florida for a hit and run.

•Scientology filed 50 different lawsuits in one year against the Cult Awareness Network, an anti-cult organization. Using false testimony they won one of the suits and because the organization couldn’t pay the fine Scientology took the organizations name and logo so if you were calling to get out of Scientology you’d be unknowingly telling Scientology of your intentions. (For full transparency my mom was a member of the Cult Awareness Network before it was taken over and was sued individually by the Church of Scientology)

•Scientology has an official branch known as the Sea Org, a mixture between a paramilitary group and slavery, comprised of their most dedicated members including many children/teens who’ve been raised in Scientology. This is where some of the most rampant and terrifying abuse in Scientology occurs.

•Sea Org members often work over 100 hours a week for Scientology for around 2$ per hour.

•Sea Org member’s living conditions are terrible; they live in overcrowded communal rooms with up to 12 other people, are not given healthcare unless there is a free clinic in the area, often are forced to miss meals or sleep in order to successfully completed their work.

•Several former Sea Org members have accused the church of physical abuse. •Sea Org members may not have children and women who have become pregnant have reportedly been forced/coerced by their higher-ups to have abortions.

•Leaving Sea Org without permission automatically makes you a suppressive person, so young adults who’ve been raised in Scientology who want to leave are cut off from everyone they’ve ever known with no money or job and getting permission to leave can require 3 years of hard labor, social isolation, and group pressure.

thie above is 100% true. one of my friends has scientology and other cults as a special interest. there are hundreds of pages of documentation of their abuse that you can publicly read about.

it’s one of the scariest “religions” you’ll ever meet if not THE scariest because it was PURPOSELY created to make money. unlike most cults that do have some seed of genuine belief however twisted and off base the founders are, scientology was never a belief system – it was a get rich quick scheme for a terrible hack author who saw that there was more money to be made in manipulating people into a cult and then not letting them leave. higher and higher levels of scientology, which you have to take to be truly “clear” aka free of evil spirits, will cost you thousands and even millions of dollars. they will literally hook you into a billion year contract and then pursue you for any money you “owe” them, thousands of “back fees” for their religious training, if you try to leave.

oh and it has literally driven people to suicide as part of its goal to keep “suppressive persons” from spreading information. someone even made a fucking song about its abuses.

stay the fuck away from anything marked scientology or dianetics. narconon (NOT the same as narcotics anonymous, the 12 step program) is also their thing. never even step FOOT into one of their free dianetics “auditing sessions” because they will use it to manipulate you into joining. they are incredibly persistent and will use every trick in the book to get you on board.

scientology: not even once.

Off the top of my head, a non-exhaustive list of “Brand Names” used by Scientology:

  • Narconon
  • Dianetics
  • Associate of Better Living and Education (ABLE)
  • Criminon
  • Applied Scholastics
  • Delphi Schools
  • The Way to Happiness Foundation
  • Author Service Inc.
  • Bridge Publications Inc.
  • Golden Era Productions
  • New Era Publications
  • Citizens Commission on Human Rights
  • The National Commission on Law Enforcement and Social Justice

Do not join any of the organizations.  Do not work with them.  Do not use their materials.  Do not give them your money.  Do not sign any documents.

^^^^

I can add nothing to this post except to say that this is true. I’ve crossed paths with these people several times. It’s a fascinating and terrible psychological control.

They’ve been pushing ads on Instagram too talking about “alternative education” and the like.
