Before anyone in this hell tag makes another goddang move, I’m going to teach you all about SHIELDING, GROUNDING, CLEANSING, and WARDING. Not only are these four things essential for the baby witch, but they will help you keep impostor spirits (like fake Loki’s) out of your living space and out of your life, which will make discernment a lot easier.
SHIELDING – Empathic shielding is where you put an energy bubble around you. Not only is this vital to Empaths in order stop you from sopping up others’ emotions, but it also provides a protective screen from astral beings while you’re on the go. The short of it is, with visualization or intent alone (whatever works best for you), use your energy to encase yourself in a shield. I like to do this while meditating.
GROUNDING – This keeps you from getting too unteathered as you do energy work. Grounding is very different for everyone, but fortunately you can find many methods with a quick google search. I use grounding to push out “black water” energy (my own energy that’s been polluted with stress, etc) and draw in “clean energy” from the earth. I do this while shielding.
CLEANSING – Again, lots of different techniques with this one. Cleansing is good for spaces that have stagnant or bad energy…or that just need a pick-me-up. I have also used cleansing to guide wayward spirits out of my house.
WARDING – Warding is your number one protection against unwanted spirits entering your home. It’s basically a long-term shield for your house or living space. You start by making a list of rules and allowances for who/what gets to come into your home and under what conditions (if any), and once you have your list you go about your house reciting your rules and “stringing” your energy up, including around entrances, windows, and mirrors. Some people use other supplementary material, like banners and sigils, to sort of anchor the energy in place.
I shield and ground daily; I cleanse as needed; warding is new for me but it feels right to renew my wards with the turning of the seasons. Adjust as needed for your practice.
But in light of all the discourse going on: DISCERNMENT is still important. You always need to consider whether “bad things” are the cause of astral beings, random mundane happenstance, or your own dang self. In the case of an astral entity, you are free to set BOUNDARIES, and know that you do not have to put up with any shit from any entity, whether they be a god or a gremlin.
You have a lot more power than you may think over your spiritual situation. Believe in that.
Hoodoo is a closed tradition to those of the african diaspora, especially black southern americans (though all black folks can practice it).
If you’re non-black you shouldn’t be practicing it. But double that if you are white. Hoodoo was created because white racist slave masters and white society in general force the black slaves to abandon their true religions. hoodoo is how our ancestors salvaged it. if you are white, you have absolutely no claim to it bcs the connection is not there. that connection of slavery, racism and oppression is not there and thus you are practicing it for a trend. your ancestors are responsible for upholding racism and by forcing yourself into the practice you are too uphold racism and oppression.Â
there are already so many white people who pick up hoodoo for fun while black root workers don’t have access to the practice, are made to fear it by white society, or are demonized for practicing it.
if white people want to practice a craft that has a southern/nature like aesthetic then there are MANY open, non-black religions similar to hoodoo to practice.
but a white person practicing hoodoo is just racist and disrespectful.Â
i also wish you would stop saying “organized religion” when you mean “Christianity” (or more broadly “faiths with rigid hierarchies”) but I can’t have what I want apparently.
I also wish more people would stop saying “_____ isn’t a religion, it’s a [philosophy/way of life/relationship] because a) it can be all these things at once b) religion is not a dirty word and c) not all definitions of religion are Christian/Western-centric.
I recently purchased these massive 4 ½ inch cast iron square nails. According to the seller, they were found in a barn and were from the 20′s or 30′s, and I’d much rather use old iron than newer iron in my craft.Â
They were sold “as is” and when they came they were so rusty it was difficult to hold them without your hands being cut or coming away orange. It was hard to tell they were nails in the first place! So I let them soak in vinegar overnight then scrubbed them down a few times with a toothbrush and baking soda. I also oiled them to make sure they wouldn’t rust so badly again. My hands are sore, but I’m pleased with the result, and I also think I’ll get better results with them now too.
Your tools respect respect. They can feel the energy you put into them. These nails are an important part of protecting my space, and I want to make sure that when they’re needed, they work to the best of their ability.Â
I’m a firm believer in that whatever effort you put into your craft, it is given back to you, I also like making sure my tools are in tip top shape, as they can and will take notice.Â
