here is my midsummer/summer solstice/litha/etc spread! i recommend for crystal use incorporating rose quartz, citrine, moonstone, carnelian, garnet, tigers eye, or amber into ur practices on this beautiful day. of course, any crystals u can get your hands on will be beneficial if thats what you choose to do, but a little bit of rose quartz did no one any harm 😉
for candles/incense, i keep my black candles for the later period of the year when im screaming around my house n pretending to not b terrified of LIFE 🙂 right now, i bring in red (love n passion, baby!), oranges (bring in those new beginnings which are always appearing in front of u this time of yr!), and yellows (communication n GOOD HEALTH SO SAY GOODBYE TO UR ALLERGIES – jks, sadly). white is always good – really just the classic warm colours that can be used for either chakra channeling, meditation, spell work, etc. in the incense-sphere, lavender and chamomile are GREAT for this time of year. I also rec dragons blood for any sexy charms/spells/etc u might be doing.
i hope this has helped and that u enjoy using this spread! pls lmk (if u want) if u do use it omfg i LOVE hearing from u guys and learning what worked for u/what didn’t and the results u got!
happy midsummer/summer solstice/litha to all u magical folk out there – have a fab time of yrrrrr! x
My altar got updated and I realized I haven’t uploaded a picture to this blog yet.
This section is for my world tree and Angrboda. The picture is from Medusa Dollmaker and it’s still one of my favorite pieces that remind me of Her. The Sleipnir a friend and I made out of plastic horses and hot glue and it was a pain in the ass cutting up the horses and sticking the parts together but He’s so cute.
I made the small white bowl for Sigyn and the other bowl is handmade by a local artist and is something that called to me when I was in the shop. The pine cone, sea shell with beans I harvested in it, the phallis, and one half of a geode belong to Freyr. The sea glass and flourite is for Njord. And the oak candle holder is Angrboda’s.
The D&D piece and goat are for Thor. And the snake and shale are for Jormungandr. Normally, I wouldn’t put Them close to each other but They didn’t seem to mind when I set it up.
I forget what the stone is but it and the purple poodle are for Fenrisulfr.
This is Loki’s little area. He has His own matchbox, and I always seem to find one penny a day (and occasionally foreign money) so they go in the glass jar. The stone has the spirit in the shape of a red spider and it was gifted to me by my ex on Loki’s behalf.
From the bottom up is a little sea turtle and shell for Narvi; a rock that looks like a tooth that I found at a river for Vali; Hel has a coin, owl, and pendant I found. Freya’s accumulated quite a bit of stuff for only really being around since November 2017. She has the other half of the geode, some pyrite, wood flowers, and a “Brisingamen” I got at a Goodwill. The sea shells are for Sigyn, and the cat/girl statue is both a guardian.
probably my fave thing about norse mythology is that nobody in scandinavia knew what mistletoe was so you end up with descriptions of it everywhere from some kind of tree to straight up a fucking magic sword
like mistletoe irl is this dweeb-ass parasitic motherfucker not entirely unlike somebody kicked a soccer ball into a tree, but it didnt grow in iceland or denmark and only grew in a few places in norway or sweden, but word on the street 1300 years ago was that misteltān down in england was pretty fucking magical n next thing you know it’s getting calqued to mistelteinn, and –teinn is only really used in sword names so it’s gotta be pretty badass right?
in denmark it becomes, understandably, a magic sword, and in iceland an oddly sword- or spear-shaped tree: “stóð um vaxinn, | vollom hæri, / miór oc mioc fagr | mistelteinn”, per voluspá.
anyway there’s no moral here i just think the idea of throwing mistletoe at somebody and them just……dropping dead for some gd reason is fucking hilarious, so @snorri i hate you with a passion but thanks for this
i just realized neither of those sources are english nor in fact in living languages, sorry im like this. here’s gesta danorum iii in english, it describes höðr using a magic sword that allows him to strike down the demigod baldr. and the old norse reads “stood full-grown, | high above the plain, / slender and very beautiful | was the mistletoe”, which… in no way, shape, or form is an accurate description of mistletoe. höðr proceeds to throw the whole fucking plant at baldr’s head and that just….kills him…….apparently………
Are…are you telling me…the legendary sword Mysteltainn…is just “the mistletoe sword (whatever the hell mistletoe is)”???
this is sort of a continuation of the last post but i see a LOT of people engaging in romantic relationships with loki in particular and like.. from my experience with loki, he is SUPER manipulative and is prone to change pace a lot and i see a ton of experiences of him coming to people asking specifically for romantic endeavors/flirting (of which ive had the same communication myself) and all i have to say for this one is uh…. please DONTTTT
Since you said you were open to discussion: I mean… yeah? But there’s such a thing as being aware of all this and choosing to enter with open eyes anyway. Like… he sure can be manipulative, like believe you me I know that, and of course he’s prone to change. I could spend a long time listing off his “good” qualities too, he’s brought so much to my life I’m so grateful for, but the point is, yeah. He is who he is, even the uncomfortable aspects.
It’s fine if you’re not on board for that kind of thing, really it is, and it’s beyond legit to have had bad experiences with him and noped out. That’s so real and genuinely a good choice if it’s good for you. One of my dearest friends had something like that happen sadly, that’s very real. But it’s really not up to you what other people do. You don’t really even have to understand it yourself to accept that some people, not out of ignorance but out of awareness, love, and choice enter into these relationships. Some are more devotional/religious, some are more casual and more similar to a human relationship, but all of them are valid.
As contradictory as it might sound, to some people (including myself when it comes to Loki) a certain amount of surrender and vulnerability itself feels more protective than walls and distance. I’m not sure I can fully explain this, because it’s more something I’ve felt than logically pondered. Maybe some kind of metaphor about waters from a storm flowing freely, versus hitting resistance and breaking shit. Idk. Pure UPG energy work stuff I’ve experienced.
Anyway, it’s fine if this isn’t for you, and I’m not angry, but it just doesn’t really make sense to tell others not to enter relationships with gods. You can really only speak for yourself. Maybe this will sound overly romantic, but for some of us, falling in love and tying ourselves to a god or gods is as natural as breathing, and avoiding it would be like trying to turn off our own breathing. And most of us are aware that like anything, it’s not always going to be blissful and fun. But… it’s still a choice I’ve made, and one I don’t regret.
