Hello! Welcome back to another Guidebook post brought to you by your’s truly! This lesson is based on Pendulums another big part of my craft. Lets Begin!

What is a Pendulum?

A pendulum is a weight hung from a fixed point so that it can swing freely backward and forward according to google’s handy dandy dictionary.

For a witch’s definition, a pendulum is a object connected to a string to divine and or seek out answers to a question they have.

What Are They Used For?

As stated above they are used as a form of divination and are a good tool to start out with for baby witches as they are easy to understand and get the hang of!

How Do You Use A Pendulum?

This is simple, but is a bit hard for me to explain. Basically, you hold the weight by the very in the the string, I usually hold it between my first and middle finger the string going over my first finger to have better control. Hold the pendulum still and ask your question. The pendulum will move if your focus enough. It is important to not move your hand at all as it can effect your results.

What Do the Movement’s Mean?

I’ll make this fairly simple. If you don’t have a pendulum board and want to do a reading here’s a way you can do a simple yes or no reading.

If it moves forward and backward: Yes

If it moves left to right/right to left: No

Another way is by circle movements as pendulum’s move depending on their taste

Clockwise: yes

Counter Clockwise: No

Where Can I Get Them?

I got my first one off of Amazon. But, you can either buy or make your own pendulum! @lunaesteria has a really good looking set of pendulums(I do not know if she is still making them, but there’s no harm in asking her if you’re curious). You can buy one pretty much anywhere. However, if you are low on budget and can’t afford to buy one then you’ll notice how I said Make one.

Making a pendulum isn’t hard. You just need an item hanging from a string. Here’s a few ideas for that:

  • sewing needle and thread
  • a necklace
  • tying a crystal to a string
  • etc

How To Do a Pendulum Reading?

Pendulum reading, in my mind at least, should have the same care and process of doing a card reading.

  1. set up your area, having a flat surface is probably the best
  2. meditate over your pendulum and ask your question either in your head or out loud
  3. watch the pendulum move and carefully note how it moved and write it down.
  4. do this for each question as you might not remember the answer to the first one if you continue on

Do I Need a Pendulum Board?

Answer: No. But if you feel better having one I can provide some links to photos of some really good pendulum boards. You can once again either make one or buy one online, whatever floats your boat!

Pendulum Care

Pendulums do require care. They need it in order to properly function as a divining tool. Here are a few things to help keep your pendulum functioning nicely!

  • Cleanse your pendulum often! this will keep negative energies at bay and will keep things from sticking
  • Connecting with your pendulum will also keep it working specifically for you!
  • Keep it where you can’t loose it(I’ve lost mine before and thankfully found it but it’s not fun loosing it)
  • There’s probably more tips but please don’t rely on me as your main source

Sincerely,

The Sleepy Witch

**Compiled from my personal Grimoire**

I’d like to add that certain motions don’t always mean certain answers. For example forward and back doesn’t always mean yes for everyone. Left and right doesn’t always mean no for everyone.

I always ask basic questions at first. Such a as “Do I own pets?” “Do I live in the United States?”

And then I ask questions that are false to see how it swings for a question that is definitely a no.

I think that’s a good way to get used to using your pendulum and a good way to learn the motions of your pendulum.

Water Scrying — What is it and how do I do it?

So a lot of common methods of divination are candle/flame, tarot, runestones, pendulums, plamistry, tea leaf, and black mirror scrying (I personally use tarot, runestones, and water divination but I’d love to get into black mirror scrying!) however water scrying is something I rarely see on tumblr. So, I decided to make a post about it and some methods I use!!!

~~~
So, what is water scrying?
Water scrying is a divination technique where you look at water and analyze the images you see in it. It’s often said that it works best when done at natural water source under the moonlight, however, I often fill this one bowl I use only for magic (usually water divination, though) and do it in my backyard or at my window.
The best way to think about it is watching the light hit the water and finding the meaning in those creations. If you’re working with running water or a water source with tides or waves, this can help to enhance the way light bounces off the water, which is why many prefer doing it at a stream or beach. However, people don’t always have access to a place like this and I find a bowl of water under the moonlight works just as well.
Tips for doing water scrying
  • Breathe. If you don’t see anything, don’t stress it. Sometimes the universe is just trying to calm you down.
  • Try not to force the water to reflect light. If the water is perfectly still and you don’t see a lot of water reflecting, don’t stick your hand in and try to get the water to move. Changing location or your source of water is a much more accurate divination method.
  • There are no rules. It’s up to you to decide what you see in the water means. Sometimes I journal some of the more prominent and reoccurring symbols I see, but for the most part it’s watching the water and feeling the energies and emotions that call out to me.
PSA: These are my personal beliefs and practices. Many people have their own methods, and every witch is different. I just wanted to bring some light to one of my favorite techniques.
Well, I hope this managed to be useful to some of you guys! Sorry about not posting in awhile I’ve had a ton of work lately (or if this is poor quality—I’ve been working on it during breaks). I love all of you and I hope you have a great day 💙
Top 10 Lines in Palmistry.
Palmistry is an art of reading the hands. It is believed that everyone in this world has a destiny, which can be determined by analyzing the lines, rings and mounts on one’s hand. Out of these, lines and rings on the hand of a person are more important in context with palmistry-
1. Life Line
Life line is obviously the most important line that can be found on the hand. By analysing it, one can determine how long will the bearer live and the ups and downs that he will face in his life.  It starts below the mount of Jupiter (below index figure) and passes through the mount of Venus.
2. Head Line
Brain is considered to be one of the most important organs of the body and line of head could tell how intelligent is the bearer of the line of head is expected to be. A long and straight line reflects a practical man whereas a curvy line of head means that the person is more creative than practical. It starts below mount of Jupiter and passes straight dividing the palm.
3. Heart Line
Line of Heart is situated above the Line of Head and it determines the emotional level of a person. A short line indicates possibility of a heart attack and a complete absence of Line of Heart means that the person has no emotions in him and is likely to be of a criminal nature.
4. Fate Line
The line of fate determines the fortune of a person. A straight and unbroken line of fate means that the person will be lucky in this life while a broken line of fate means that the person is likely to see lots of misfortunes during his life.
5. Sun Line
Line of sun in situated below the ring finger. It determines the amount of success that a person is likely to attain in his life. A strong line of sun is considered a sign of a successful person.
6. Health Line
Line of health is situated below the mount of mercury (under the little finger). It can determine the health of a person and generally, it is considered as a good sign, if this line is light or is not present at all; such a person is expected to live a healthy and ailment free life.
7. Marriage Line
It is a small line situated just above the line of heart at the corner of the mount of mercury. One can have one of more line of marriage. The stronger lines represent marriage relationship while the lighter ones reflect affairs. An absence of line of marriage would mean that the person will not get married in this life.
8. Ring of Saturn
It is in shape of a half moon and it surrounds the middle finger. The person, who has such a ring, is expected to be of a very serious nature and someone who likes to live alone. Generally, it is not considered a good sign to have such a ring on the hand.
9. Ring of Venus
This ring starts from the middle of little finger and ring finger and end in the mid of index finger and middle finger. The bearer of such a ring is likely to be extravagant and is expected to lose his fortune due to this habit.
10. Ring of Sun
This ring occupies position below the sun finger or the ring finger. Like other rings, ring of sun too is not considered to be a good sign. The bearer of such a ring is expected to be too proud and egoist in nature.
Ran’s Runes (divination tool in honor of the sea goddess)
From a dream I had. A plain mason jar with sand, shells, rocks and sea glass from our local shores. Added in small blue garden stones with runes painted on them.
Simply turn and watch the changing sandscape until a rune – or several – are clearly visible to guide you. 🙂
That…that’s brilliant.
I just wanted to say that I’m close with Ràn & I can find next to nothing on her on Tumblr, so thank you!!!
