Loki is, in a way, the anti-Catholic school. I’m not saying necessarily that being Lokean is the opposite of being Catholic, because, as a former Catholic who still has a place in his heart for Christ, I think that’s entirely untrue.
But, he is certainly as far as one can get from the religious experience of Catholic school. I felt lost and wished for another spiritual connection similar to what I felt as a child with Christ, but I was unable to because of the bad experiences I had growing up in Catholic school. The basis of Catholic school is so opposite to being a Lokean that worshiping Loki felt easy and natural.
Conformity
Any Lokean can tell you Loki hates conformity. He wants to be wild and free, not letting anyone tell him how to live his life. He’s genderfluid, but doesn’t care about pronouns, he’s, as a Jötunn, intersex, and pansexual. Plus, he’s always there for the underdogs, the oppressed, the different. He sits with the homeless on the streets and marches in protests.
If there’s anything that Loki is against, it’s conformity.
Self-Hatred
At face value, it doesn’t seem like something that would be forced at a Christian school, but it certainly was for me. I hated myself at Catholic school. As a queer kid, it was definitely more than others, but there were many other things that I hated myself for, too. I was terrible for “questioning God.” I wouldn’t reach salvation because I had doubts. I was a sinner because I thought that others should make their own choices.
Worshipping Loki, I have come to find that being unapologetically yourself, no matter what that actually means, is a fantastic way to honor him. He wants you to love yourself.
Blind Acceptance
I felt this the most. I had to write lines from the Bible because I would speak out or question things. I disagreed, so I needed to be punished. I was not allowed to question what I was taught.
Loki is clever, a silver tongue. He wants you to question things, to poke holes in arguments, to push back against what is accepted. Sometimes what is accepted needs to be assaulted from all sides with all your wit.
